4/26/06 Update

A few interesting sports tidbits for the day:

NFL:
Brett Favre has once again said this "is his final season" and is coming back to QB the Packers for another year.
Ricky Williams has 1 year suspension from the leauge for his 4th substance abuse policy. Hopefully this is the last we'll hear of stonerboy.
The Texan's GM has announced they will NOT be drafting a quarterback - I'm guessing they will be taking Reggie Bush.

MLB:
Yankees are 10-8 after last nights win - climbing up there slowly but surely.
After watching Soriano (who is now on the Nationals) stumble around like a tard trying to catch a flyball last night, I'm starting to remember why the Yanks got rid of him.
Barry Bonds hit HR #2 last night - getting closer and closer to that record.

NHL: Rangers are down 2-0 to the Devils and must win tonight to have any chance at all.

NBA: Kenyon Martin was suspended last night for "conduct detrimental to the team - rumor has it it was a profanity laced tirade against the coach.
Larry Bird has come out with his own line of wine - to quote Jim Rome, "The question is, does it come with a twist of cap, or just in a box."

Out.

Crappy Predictions

Here are a few scenarios I have heard or come up with for this MLB season. Not saying they will happen but they could and it's fun to make stupid sports predictions. Here goes:

1. Barry Bonds will retire before he breaks the record both because he is off the juice (and theefore suffering alot in his performance) and because of the even bigger crapstorm that will happen if steroid boy actually breaks the record.
2. Roger Clemens will keep dangling himself in front of the Yankees and Red Sox like a carrot in front of frickin mules before finally returning to Houston to finish out the season.
3. As was shown last week when the red hot Mets were beaten 2 games to by the Braves last week, Atlanta will once again win the NL East with the Mets a few games behind them. An interesting side note: Tom Glavine is something like 1-9 against his old team since coming to the Mets.
4. The Detroit Tigers will finish over .500 for the first time in years thanks to their new manager and a good young pitching staff.
5. The Yankees will lose AGAIN in the first round of the playofss because of their mediocre (for the most part) starting pitching And as usual, they will be beaten by the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim". Monkey monkey.
I will post more as they occur to me. Email me so of yours...

Giants sign Arrington

It appears that Lavar Arrington is now officially the newest member of the New York Football Giants. The Giants recently signed Sam Madison from the Dolphins and will have a healthy Antonio Pierce who they picked up last year. This along with a great defensive line returning from last year gives the Giants a pretty impressive defense.
The offense wasn't bad last year either and they didn't lose any Key players. Eli Manning will only get better too. All in all, it should be a good year for the Giants.

Single A Baseball

Albany NY's local minor leauge baseball team The Valley Cats (single A Houston Astros affiliate) starts their season in a few weeks. They had a good season last year and should be even better this year. Ya, the level of play is a far cry from MLB or even AAA, but the games are still pretty good and alot of fun to watch. The athletes are playing for low salary but for a chance to make it big so they play hard too.

Not only that, but you can have a night out with the woman or buddies and everyone watches baseball, gets a beer and eats a hotdog for $15! You can't beat it.
So if you have a minor leauge team in your city check it out, it's pretty cool.

Update 4/17/06

Finally the Yankees are back to .500. They killed the Twins last night and are now 6-6. Not that great but definately an improvement from a week or two ago.

Also, a rare hockey update from me. Tonight the Rangers, Devils and Fliers ALL have a chance to win the division on the final night of the regular season. Pretty amazing! I might actually sit through some hockey tonight if I get a chance. I will of course be rooting for the Rangers. The division winner gets home ice for the first two rounds of the playoffs, so winning that is a pretty big deal.

Lebron

I watched about 10 mins of the Cleveland Cavaliers game last night and it so happened that I tuned in right before Lebron James hurt his ankle.

If Lebron doesn't play in the playoffs, what very little interest I have in the NBA will be down to pratically nothing. He was the only reason why I had any intentino of following the NBA playoffs at all. I know alot of other people agree with me on this. Lebron is fast becoming the NBAs superstar and is a blast to watch.

Lebron seems to be one of the better guys in the NBA too. Now I'm sure the guy is still a turd in his personal life, but at least he seems to be less of a turd that some others *ahem* Kobe Bryant *ahem* Shawn Kemp *ahem*.

I was kinda rooting for Cleveland especially since the Knicks are so utterly terrible. Since I grew up there and I like James, they were kinda my sentimental favorite. But if Lebron doesn't play, Cleveland will get knocked out right away If that happens the only NBA playoffs I will care about watching are the Finals. Maybe.

Brett Favre

There was an interesting poll on ESPN.com yesterday. The question was "Should Brett Favre play another year with the Green Bay Packers or should he retire?" The majority vote in every state except Wisconsin (of course) was the Brett should retire. I agree. C'mon, you have been giving us the "I'm not sure if I'm staying or not" song and dance every off season for the last 3 years. The Packers are never sure what their QB situation is gonna be so it hurts the team. And Favre led the leauge in QB turnovers last year. He's just getting old. I love Brett Favre, he is one of my favorite players, but I think it's time for him to go.

On a different note the Yanks FINALLY won a game last night. The lit up the Angels in a big way: 10-1. The Yankees are 2-4 now. Yipee.

April 7th Baseball Update

Don't look now, but the Detroit Tigers and Milwaukee Brewers are tied for the best record in baseball at 3-0. It's a 162 game season so I'm sure their fans aren't jumping up and down just yet, but it's nice to see some underdog teams get off to a good start.

The Yanks on the other hand after destroying the A's in the first game of the year, got beat in the next 2 games of the 3 games series. IN the second game they were beaten in the bottom of the 9th inning. In the third they scored the first 4 runs but non after that and lost handily. Their record is 1-2. Dissapointing start but again, it's a long season...
