Sports items of note for the day:

UAlbany finishes the season in 2nd place behind Vermont. Conference tournament starts next weekend in Boston.

Curt Schilling (Red Sox pitcher) says he will be a free agent after this season. Hmmm… Cashman, are you on this I hope?

Mariano Rivera says even if he isn’t with the Yankees after this season (and I’m pretty sure he will be anway), he would never play for the Red Sox. That’s my boy!

Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn’s stock in the NFL Draft is falling fast. He probably won’t be the #1 pick after all. If I were the Lions or the Bills among a few other teams, I would be keeping my eye on that.

Last night I went to see the Harlem Globe Trotters at the Times Union Center (man that still sounds weird). I had never seen them before so I didn’t really know what to expect. It was actually a lot of fun. Very family friendly show, a lot of cool stunts and funny but still clean jokes and skits.

The size of the crowd wasn’t too bad but could definitely have been bigger, and they played along with the skits pretty well. The Globe Trotters like to involve the crowd, sometimes pulling out members of the audience to participate in the gags.
All in all a good time. I would especially recommend it if you have kids. They come to Albany every year I think, so if you missed the show try to catch it next time.

Here's my problem with this whole Tim Hardaway "I hate gays" thing: Regardless of if you agree with his comments or not, he was asked a question and gave an honest answer. Maybe his answer shows him to be ignorant, but it was still honest not some made up pc bullcrap. And now hes getting completely trashed and his PR life is ruined by the sports media when they were the ones that asked him the question in the first place.

It kinda goes to show I think, that some in the sports media (in this case ESPN specifically) does not really want an honest answer, just some made up garbage that sounds good. That way every one of their little sound bites sound the same.

Albany played a good game against Vermont on Sunday but ending up losing at the end. That put them one game behind Vermont for the Conference lead. Even if UA ends up coming in 2nd at the end of the season, that still puts them in a pretty good position for the conference tournament.

The Danes only have 3 games left in the season, the next one being the nationally televised game at Boise State. Thursday Feb 16th at 9pm on ESPNU. Watch it!

UAlbany had a good win on Wednesday after a tough several days on the road. This sets up Sunday’s game against Vermont nicely. This is a very big game for the Danes because it is for first place in the America East Conference. They will also be looking to stretch their winning streak to 9 games. The game will be broadcast locally on TW3 and should be a lot of fun to watch. GO DANES!

Colts win the Superbowl by beating the Bears 29-17. Peyton Manning cements his place as one of the all time great QBs in NFL history. Kind of a sloppy game with all the rain and mud, lots of players slipping, bad plays and fumbles. I thought that made it very entertaining though, one of the most fun Superbowls I’ve watched in a few years.

Probowl is next Saturday then no more football till next season. Spring and MLB can’t come fast enough. A least the UAlbany basketball team is on a roll. That’ll be something fun to follow until Yankees spring training starts.
