7/12/07

The Yankees announced late yesterday that they were willing to waive their usual rule of not negotiating with players mid-season in order to sign A Rod to a contract extension. A Rod’s agent basically said in an interview today, “Thanks but no thanks.” We’ll wait until the end of the season to start talking to anyone. So it looks like this year will be A Rod’s last as a Yankee.

But is that really such a bad thing? I have kinda been an A Rod supporter through most of the bashing. I’ll admit, when he was deep in his choking at the plate faze I was as annoyed with him as any other Yankee fan. I just think a lot of the criticism he gets is undeserved. He is one of the greatest, if not the greatest players of our time.

But the Yankee lineup is filled with great players, and look how they are doing. Terrible. What they need is team chemistry. A collection of team players that all play their hardest every night and get along with each other. The Yanks need to go back to the teams of 5-10 years ago. They need players like Bernie Williams, Tino Martinez and Paul O’neil. Not an all star linup up that is self centered and inconsistent.

So lets hope the Yanks start to shake up the current lineup with good homegrown talent and solid players through the trade block.

OUT.
